We've been looking at the cuts proposed by Republicans and some are rather mundane thing. The Smishonian program raised enough private money so the public funds weren't needed, for example. who can argue against that?
There are several duplicate programs that are cut, many with unexpanded balances cause no one applied to use the grants.Who can argue against that? Why should used money just sit there when there are more urgent priorities.
Andthat's the problem, right there. This isn't spend and reallocate toward needs. This issimply spendingnd cutting. Real need never enter in to the picture. The money isn't focused on programs that work, while eliminating those that don't.
This is "drown government in the bathtub" strategy. They don't want better stronger programs;they want none at all.
This sprig thereis goingto be flooding in areas where the Snow is at historically high levels. Yet emergency management funds to pre-position items to prevent floodinghave bee cut under Republican spending programs.
Congressmen are going to have red faces when the floods come and they have to explain the lack of preparation or readiness that could have saved lives or property. What if the is a Queensland size disaster here?
Oh yes, and of course earmarks. Most of them were proposed by now departed Congressmen-sort of a knife in the back we hardly knew ye approach that Congressman Ryan favors.
This is just the opening bid in a long war.
But the real war to increase revenues has yet to be fought. Where's the new money to catch tax cheats hiding money abroad?Where the reinging in of "carry back and carry forward tax credits" that allow corporations massive tax deductions. It's interesting foall the whining about TARP that no one bothered to eloiminate the tax write off previsions of Wells Fargo and others who got massive break sfor picking up Washitgon Mutural during thefinincial melt down.
And if the TEA Partyi s so concerned about TARP where are the claw back provisions on Bonuses? IstheTEA Party now in favor of giving bonuses to failed compainies ? It loks that way.
